AI technology has rapidly advanced over the last five years. Terzo is proud to be at the forefront of AI innovation.
Terzo has partnered with Visual Capitalist to present AI Week, a visual representation of AI advancements and insights from the vast landscape of AI technology. This first-of-its-kind event highlighted the data driving the AI revolution, sourced from Stanford’s AI Index, one of the most influential AI reports of the year. This editorial event featured key financial insights, cutting-edge capabilities, and the cost of staying ahead.
Global AI investment by country
Since 2013, the world has raised over $750 billion for AI ventures. The US leads the world in AI investments, raising nearly half a trillion dollars in private investments for AI. After the US, China, the UK, Canada, and Israel lead the pack.
In 2024 alone, there were 1,073 AI companies funded in the US. The top category of AI investment was “AI infrastructure, research, and governance,” which includes new companies building AI applications, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI.

The global AI patent race
Understanding the landscape of the current AI patent race has huge implications for the future. Although the US leads in AI investments, China is the clear leader in patents, accumulating 70% of global AI patents.
However, only 7.3% of China’s patents were filed internationally. The vast majority of these patents are filed only within China. Even though the US has filed fewer patents overall, US organizations produced 40 "notable AI models" in 2024, compared to China's 15.

Generative AI use
AI use has taken a surprising turn over the last year. Instead of simply creating content and images, people are increasingly using AI for personal and professional support, from managing emotions to organizing their personal and professional lives.
While content creation, learning, and creativity are still popular uses of AI, technical uses such as search, writing emails, and fixing code have fallen. These trends demonstrate the growing sophistication of AI models.

The cost of training AI models
While DeepSeek-V3 reportedly only cost $6 million to train, Google spent 192 million on Gemini 1.0 Ultra. This is the highest cost across leading AI models, and includes many different contributing costs.
Visual Capitalist says, "These costs were calculated based on cloud compute rental prices, which can rake up millions of dollars quickly since companies rent out thousands of supercomputers that run nonstop for weeks." Research and development staff salaries, AI accelerator chips, and server components make up the total cost.

AI vs. Human performance
The ultimate question in AI advancements: Can AI resources replace human resources?
AI performance is rapidly improving, and the gap between human and machine reasoning is narrowing. In just the past two years, AI models have made a big leap in technical performance. As AI models start to surpass human performance in certain technical tasks, leveraging AI solutions can augment teams to improve performance.
